What is BPH?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is when the prostate gland gets bigger than usual.
The prostate gland is usually about the size of a walnut and is located below the bladder, wrapping around the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body).
It’s important to note that BPH is not cancer and having it doesn’t increase your chances of getting prostate cancer.
The probability of developing an enlarged prostate rises with age. Over 50% of men in their 60s and up to 90% of those aged 70-89 experience symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Symptons of BPH
(BPH) can result in a variety of issues related to lower urinary tract symptoms, such as:
Sudden and urgent urges to urinate
Weak urine stream
Increased frequency of urination, particularly during the night (nocturia)
Intermittent urine flow
Difficulty urinating or experiencing strain while doing so
Incomplete emptying of bladder
These symptoms can significantly impact one’s quality of life and should not be ignored. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and management.
